‘Here to assist with all of your health and safety needs’

I am delighted to have joined the group at Acorn Safety Solutions at such an interesting time. Acorn has striking ambitions for the future, specially around its legionella bacterias services, and I can’t delay to be part of it.

I’ve invested many years working in the river industry, in plumbing related and remedials and more recently gaining valuable knowledge carrying out legionella risk checks.

I’ve already been on the road conference our clients face-to-face, along with I’m really looking forward to developing these important associations.
‘What is legionella bacteria as well as am I at risk?’

Legionella microorganisms is microscopic and could be found in streams, rivers, reservoirs and fish ponds, usually in very low numbers, where they don’t cause any troubles. The difficulty comes when these tiny bacteria get trapped as part of your water system and also multiply, potentially bringing about Legionnaires’ Disease.

According to the Govt, there were 503 cases of Legionnaires’ Disease in the UK in 2019. It’s a life threatening illness which can be deadly – symptoms to be aware of include fever, headaches, cough and lack of breath.

While legionella bacteria may cause problems anywhere because of the right conditions, a few areas such as locations where water is actually stored or recirculated, in which the water temperature is among 20-45°C or where oxidation, sludge, scale along with organic matters exist, are considered to be at much higher risk.

People who find themselves more susceptible to disease, including the elderly and people with weakened natural defenses, need to be especially mindful.
‘So, what can I do to guard myself and those about me?’

Employers, the actual self-employed, facilities managers, protection officers and property owners, are all among those who have a duty to protect individuals against the risks associated with legionella bacteria.

The rules close to legionella bacteria are really complicated and testing must be carried out by an expert — this is where Acorn Safety Providers can really help.

A full Legionella Risk Assessment carried out by our qualified assessors is the first important step in identifying and assessing your own personal risk.

The survey will look for any non-Water Regulations Endorsement Scheme approved fixtures, assess your cool water tank and scenarios in your hot water cyndrical tube and accessibility to all areas that require monitoring and also maintenance by law.
