‘Here to help you with all of your health as well as safety needs’

I am delighted to have joined the team at Acorn Safety Companies at such an interesting time. Acorn has striking ambitions for the future, specially around its legionella germs services, and I can’t wait to be part of it.

I’ve spent many years working in the water industry, in plumbing and remedials and more not too long ago gaining valuable knowledge carrying out legionella risk exams.

I’ve already been on the road achieving our clients face-to-face, and I’m really looking forward to developing these important interactions.
‘What is legionella bacteria along with am I at risk?’

Legionella bacteria is microscopic and can be found in streams, streams, reservoirs and ponds, usually in suprisingly low numbers, where that they don’t cause any issues. The difficulty comes when these tiny germs get trapped inside your water system as well as multiply, potentially bringing about Legionnaires’ Disease.

According to the Govt, there were 503 cases of Legionnaires’ Disease in the UK in 2019. It’s a life threatening illness which can be deadly – symptoms to be familiar with include fever, headaches, cough and lack of breath.

While legionella bacteria can cause problems anywhere given the right conditions, a number of areas such as spots where water is actually stored or recirculated, in which the water temperature is between 20-45°C or where corrosion, sludge, scale and organic matters exist, are considered to be from much higher risk.

Those people who are more susceptible to an infection, including the elderly and those with weakened immunity processes, need to be especially watchful.
‘So, what can I do to safeguard myself and those about me?’

Employers, your self-employed, facilities managers, safety and health officers and landlords, are all among those who have a duty to protect men and women against the risks linked to legionella bacteria.

The rules all around legionella bacteria are really complicated and testing must be carried out by an expert : this is where Acorn Safety Companies can really help.

A full Legionella Danger Assessment carried out by a qualified assessors is the initial important step in identifying and assessing your own risk.

The survey will appear for any non-Water Regulations Endorsement Scheme approved fittings, assess your chilly water tank and conditions in your hot water canister and accessibility to other areas that require monitoring along with maintenance by law.

At the conclusion of the assessment, you will get a full report that will include any assistance with remedial work as well as repairs and actions you should take following.
